Children Heard and Seen

Children With a Parent in Prison Living on Their Own: Illustrated

People are often shocked to learn that in some cases, parental imprisonment leaves children living completely alone, without an adult in the home.

It is shocking.

Worse still, these are not isolated cases. As long as we continue to not know who or where children with a parent in prison are, we do not know how many children are in this situation every day.

A national, statutory mechanism of identification and support for children with a parent in prison would immediately prevent these shocking cases of children left living all alone in the house.

Below are real-life instances that we have come across as an organisation, of children left living on their own after their parent has been sent to prison.

Thank you so much to the artists at Wimbledon High School for these illustrations.
