This course explores the wide-ranging impact parental imprisonment can have on children, including emotional wellbeing, stigma, relationships, education, identity, behaviour and family life.

For practitioners working directly with children and young people.

Practical training for professionals who want to use the Children Heard and Seen workbook to support individual children affected by parental imprisonment. It explores how to use the activities sensitively and responsively, based on the individual child’s circumstances and needs.

Safeguarding Children Impacted by Parental Imprisonment

For safeguarding professionals and those with responsibility for identifying and responding to risk.

Designed particularly for DSLs, social workers, police, early help practitioners, safeguarding leads and other professionals working directly with children and families. The course explores the safeguarding complexities that can arise alongside parental imprisonment and the importance of understanding each child’s individual circumstances.

Supporting Children with a Parent in Prison Who Have Been Impacted by Domestic Abuse

For professionals supporting children where parental imprisonment and domestic abuse intersect.

This course explores the particular experiences and needs of children where domestic abuse forms part of the family context, including situations where the imprisoned parent may have caused harm within the family. It supports professionals to understand why approaches focused primarily on maintaining or strengthening the parent-child relationship may not always be appropriate.

Supporting Children and Families Following the Imprisonment of a Parent for Sexual Offences

For professionals supporting children and non-offending parents or carers following a sexual offence.

This specialist course explores the complex impact of arrest, investigation, conviction and imprisonment for sexual offences on children and families. It considers safeguarding, stigma, secrecy, family relationships, emotional wellbeing and the challenges faced by the non-offending parent or carer.
