This week, the Children Heard and Seen team visited the Houses of Parliament in London for the Kids Count Inspiration Awards. We were so delighted to be awarded the Directors Special Award for our work supporting children with a parent in prison. Kids Count Inspiration Awards recognise young people & community groups who have done great things against all odds by giving them an “Inspire the Nation” Award. Here are some videos from the night.
The first video shows current MP for Bristol East and advocate for CHAS, Kerry McCarthy, speak about the value of our work. The second video shows our Director, Sarah’s, speech, where she encouraged others to start thinking about what happens to children with a parent in prison. As you’ll hear in the speech, we have identified a number of children who had been living alone for months as a result of parental imprisonment, and nobody had been notified.
