Children Heard and Seen

Sarah Burrows interviewed for ‘One Small Thing’ Podcast about the impacts of parental imprisonment

“It’s the shame and stigma… isolation and the trauma that the children experience that is the motivating force”

IN CONVERSATION WITH … Sarah Burrows

This podcast contains real-life recordings of children which some listeners may find distressing.

In this episode Edwina Grosvenor talks to Sarah Burrows, founder of Children Heard and Seen, a charity that supports children who have a parent in prison. These children often face stigma, isolation and trauma and have nowhere to go for help which is what motivated Sarah to work in this field. Sarah shares some harrowing accounts of children’s experiences and the subsequent impact of this trauma as well as what she believes needs to be done to ensure these forgotten children are ‘heard and seen.’
